Going to the Palm Beach Jerk Fest? It’s time to find out more about the men behind the performances you’ll see:
No stranger to great hits, Wayne Wonder is known for songs like “No Letting Go”, “Bounce Along”, and “Hold Me Now”. He’s done collaborations with Trina, and formed the band Alias with Kelly, Baby Cham, Frisco Kid, Frankie Sly, and later, Entourage. He released his latest album, Sweet Songs in 2014.
Half Pint is from Rose Lane in West Kingston. It’s known for birthing Bob Marley, Toots Hibbert, Dennis Brown and more, so he grew up in an environment where great music was born. He’s known for “Sally”, “Winsome”, and other hits. His music has also been featured in the movies The Mighty Quinn, Substitute 2, and Mookie. He’s won tons of awards, and received the key to the City of Lauderdale Lakes in 2002.
Born in the Bronx but raised in Jamaica, Tarrus made his debut in 2004 as a teenager. Known for his hits “She’s Royal”, “Start Anew”, and “Good Girl Gone Bad”, he has toured all over the world and performed with national recording artists. He’s been nominated for and won a number of awards, including a nomination for a Soul Train Music Award, and a MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act in 2014.
Dancehall artist Assassin is a powerhouse. Known for songs like “I’m In It”, “Ruffest and Tuffest”, one of the voices on Kendrick Lamar’s “The Blacker the Berry”, and Kanye West’s Yeezus, the unmistakable voice and lyrics of Assassin are not to be played with. Although these major artists don’t give him credit, you’ll get to see why he’s in such high demand.
